What is a destination wedding?
A destination wedding is a wedding which typically takes place in an exotic location, such as on a beautiful beach, near a lush waterfall, in the heart of wine country, in a tropical gazebo overlooking the ocean, aboard a cruise ship or private yacht, or in a European castle. The Destination Wedding Specialists at First Discount Travel will help you select the perfect location for your dream wedding! Now that you have found the perfect person, let us help you select the perfect destination!
There is no standard blue print for a destination wedding. Whether you want to bring all of your family and friends or create a simple ceremony for you and your fiance, First Discount Travel's Destination Wedding Specialists will help you plan your dream wedding.
Wedding requirements for United States citizens getting married abroad are relatively minor and vary by destination. Typically you must arrive between 2 and 4 business days prior to the ceremony to fill out the necessary paperwork and obtain your marriage license. The wedding coordinator at the resort will assist with all of the legal formalities. Mexico requires a blood test prior to the ceremony being performed. An apostile copy of any divorce decrees are mandatory in most countries as well as certified copies of your birth certificates or passports. Please call your First Discount Travel professional for exact marriage requirements for each individual island or country.
Many resorts offer free weddings (excluding taxes) in conjunction with your honeymoon package. Free weddings typically include a personal wedding coordinator, ceremony location, minister or officiant, basic bouquet and boutonniere, cake, prerecorded music, and a simple reception with champagne and hors d'oeuvres for 4. Please keep in mind that certain room categories and minimum night stays may be required in order to qualify for a free wedding. The following resorts are the most popular choices for free weddings.
