Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get married on a cruise ship?
Most major cruise lines feature wedding or vow renewal packages. Princess Cruise Line is currently the only one who will perform a wedding ceremony at sea with the ship's captain as the officiant. Other cruise lines allow you to get married in many of their exotic ports of call or on the ship prior to embarkation. If you choose to have wedding guests attend the ceremony but not join you on the honeymoon, a wedding aboard the ship prior to embarkation is the best option.
Where can I get a free wedding?
Several resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico offer free weddings, although certain restrictions apply and taxes are additional. Please refer to the Destination Wedding section of our website for a complete list of resorts.
How do I pack my dress?
Pack your wedding dress in a large garmet bag and carry it on the plane with you. Typically, flight attendants will hang the garmet bag in a closet toward the front of the plane. (especially if you let them know what it is!) Try using a hat box to transport your veil. You can roll the veil to help prevent wrinkles. When you arrive at your destination, unzip the bag to let the wrinkles fall out. Most wedding coordinators will assist you with locating a local dry cleaner if necessary.
Can I get a religious ceremony?
Yes, a religious ceremony is possible but has different restrictions. If this is something important to you, please inform your Destination Wedding Specialist so we can recommend an accommodating destination and resort.
Can I rent a tuxedo?
Yes. Your wedding coordinator will arrange for a tuxedo rental upon arrival. Please get a professional fitting at your local tuxedo store and we will forward the information to the resort prior to your arrival.
When should I start planning?
10 to 12 months in advance is ideal, but weddings can be planned as soon as 30 days prior in most instances.
Do the wedding guests have to stay at the same resort as the bride and groom?
No. Wedding guests can obtain day passes to the resort where the wedding is taking place. In some cases there is an additional fee for day passes.
What's included in the "free" wedding package?
Free weddings typically include a personal wedding coordinator, ceremony location, minister or officiant, basic bouquet and boutonniere, cake, prerecorded music, and a reception with champagne and hors d'oeuvres for 4.
Can I upgrade my "free" wedding?
Yes. Additional services can be purchased such as professional DVD video's, spa services, hair styling, photography packages, and more! Services and cost will vary by resort.
Can I get married on the beach?
Yes. Most resorts allow you to choose any location on property. Beaches and gazebos overlooking the ocean are the most popular wedding sites. Please keep in mind that most beach weddings can be witnessed by all resort guests.
Do I have to wear traditional wedding attire?
No. Destination weddings allow you the flexibility to choose whatever attire fits your personality.
How do I get my marriage recognized in the United States?
Most certified marriage certificates are recognized by the United States. You can use the certified copy you receive from the resort to change the bride's name on her social security card and at the Department of Motor Vehicles. If the marriage certificate is written in a language other than English, you will need to pay for a professional translation. |
